Your KPIs
Ask Lou calculates your key ratios from your trial balance every month, with a plain-English definition and the numbers behind each one.
Where to find it
My Company → KPI. Your KPIs are calculated from your imported trial balances, so there's nothing to set up: once your data is in, they're there.
The categories
- Financial Performance: gross profit, operating profit and net income percentages, EBITDA, and the strategic profit model.
- Profitability: return on equity, return on assets, times interest earned.
- Efficiency Ratios: AR and AP turnover and days, inventory days, PP&E turnover, the operating cycle.
- Leverage Ratios: debt to equity, revenue to equity, asset turnover, equity to overhead, financial leverage.
- Liquidity Ratios: working capital, current ratio, quick ratio, days of cash, working capital turnover.
- Industry Ratios: cash to revenue, equity to revenue.
Reading a KPI
Choose a period and choose Go. Each KPI shows:
- Its formula, in words, and its category.
- The previous period and the current period, side by side.
- Its history, charted over the range you chose.
- Underlying Numbers: the figures from your statements that go into it.
Click a KPI's name for a plain-English explanation of what it measures. Use the tabs, or the arrow keys, to move between the KPIs in a category, and pop any KPI out into its own window.
Choosing what you see
- Template: your KPIs follow the statement template you pick, or the master template.
- Category and KPI: narrow to one category or one KPI.
- Calendar: monthly, quarterly or annual periods, or year to date.
- Include Right-of-Use Asset: adds the lease accounts you mapped on the Reconciliation page to the asset-based KPIs.
KPIs are calculated in the app from your data, the same way every time. Lou explains them; he doesn't calculate them himself.
