Templates

Lay your statements out your way, for your board, your bank or your auditor, without touching your books.

What a template is

A template changes how your balance sheet and income statement are presented: which lines are grouped together, what they're called, and what order they're in. One template covers both statements. Your trial balance and your accounting system are never changed.

Every company has a Master Template, your trial balance as it is. It can't be edited, but you can copy it to start your own.

Making one

On the Balance Sheet or Income Statement, turn on Edit Mode:

  • Add a group and drag lines or accounts into it
  • Drag lines to reorder them
  • Rename a line on this template only
  • Lines you hide roll into an Other line, so totals never change

To move an account to a different category, change it on the Trial Balance.

Let Lou draft one

Under Lou Template Styles, choose a style (CPA for both statements, or Operations for the balance sheet) and Activate it. Lou drafts the template from your accounts; you can adjust it, or have him redraft it.

Using and sharing them

Pick a template on any statement, and on other pages that offer it. Keep several, such as one for your board and one for your bank. Share with team lets everyone view and copy a template; only its owner can change it.
