Selling or disposing of an asset
Record a sale, trade-in, donation or write-off, and see the gain or loss before you save it.
Recording it
On Asset Management, choose Dispose / Sell on the asset's row. In Dispose of Asset:
- Disposal Type: Sold, Scrapped / Junked, Traded In, Donated, or Stolen / Destroyed.
- Disposal Date.
- Sale Amount (required when it was sold), or the amount received.
Ask Lou shows where the asset stood on the disposal date and the result: a gain on disposal, a loss on disposal, or break even. Choose Record Disposal to save it.
Afterwards
The asset stays in your list, marked as disposed; filter by Disposed only to see them. It can't be edited once disposed, but the disposal can: the same button becomes Edit disposal.
Dispose, don't delete
Deleting an asset removes it completely, as if you never owned it, and takes its history with it. If you sold it, scrapped it or gave it away, dispose of it.
On your cash flow statement
Sale proceeds and gains or losses on sale come from your disposals. If they differ from your books, Ask Lou shows the difference so you can find it. See Reconciliation mappings.
