Ask Lou

Importing loans

Bring in a list of loans from a spreadsheet, or let Lou read a loan statement, a PDF or a photo.

Two ways in

On Debt Management, choose Import Loans.

  • A spreadsheet (Excel or CSV) comes in as a list you review.
  • A PDF or a photo (PNG or JPG) of a loan statement, or its text pasted in, is read by Lou into the loan form.

From a spreadsheet

Ask Lou lists each loan with its name, amount, rate, payment, number of payments and start date. If a loan matches one you already have, choose what it is:

  • Record as refinance
  • Replace terms
  • Import as new
  • Skip

A row missing something the schedule needs is unticked so it won't come in: fill it in here, or, once you've made changes, choose Download corrected sheet to finish in Excel and upload it again. Then import the loans you've kept.

From a statement or document

Upload the file, or paste the statement's text. Lou reads it and fills in the loan form for you. Check each field, change anything he got wrong, and save, the same as adding a loan by hand.

Nothing is saved until you import or save. Your accounting system is never changed.
